Breathing problems may impact one or multiple of these functions.

Allergic substances range from pollens to chemical pollutants to smoking, which can all contribute to nasal congestion. When an allergen enters the body, the immune system ramps up and produces histamine, which causes symptoms such as: headaches, sneezing, watery eyes, and nasa congestion. To rest allergies post people need to reduce exposure to that allergen and may take medication to aid the symptoms – antihistamines and nasal decongestants.

Sometimes when the septum is crooked or bent, also known as a deviated septum, it could block and prevent the flow of air through the nose. In more serious cases, a surgical procedure can straighten the septum and open the nasal airways – alleviating nasal blockage.

Enviornmental factors such as mold or dust can also indue allergies. Our doctors at Metro ENT can assess this through physical examination and skin tests. If the allergic response is severe, your doctor may recommend allergy shots to build up an immunity to the allergens and alleviate your symptoms.

Certain lung diseases can also cause breathing problems, including asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis).

Sinusitis is an inflammation of the sinus tissue which is characterized by congestion and a feeling of pressure. For more serious cases, prescription medications may be required to alleviate the pain and pressure and open up the nasal passages. Occasionally, surgery is required to remove chronically inflamed sinus tissue.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” wpex_bg_overlay=”dark” css=”.vc_custom_1508517636573{padding-top: 50px !important;padding-bottom: 50px !important;background-image: url(http://metroentcare.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/doctors.jpg?id=643) !important;background-position: center !important;background-repeat: no-repeat !important;background-size: cover !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text responsive_text=”true” color=”#ffffff”]
